Suffolk County Council is working to encourage dementia support in the community in response to the Prime Minister’s Dementia Challenge. The aim is to ensure that people are more effectively supported within and by their communities. We want to encourage shops and other services, such as transport and banking, to be more responsive to the needs of people affected by dementia and their carers.
There are already a number of note worthily successful community initiatives in the cocunty including the Debenham Project. In Wickham Market, Elmswell, Halesworth, Aldeburgh, Shotley and Haverhill work is moving ahead in developing support networks. But more can be done. There is a briefing meeting in Ipswich this Tuesday for councillors and officers to explore this issue in more detail.
