An impressive group of 11 dedicated volunteers from Ousden, Lidgate, Wickhambrook and Stradishall has set up a new Community First Responders group to cover the four villages.

The group’s co-ordinator, Peter Vince says there were 37 incidents in the last year across the four villages to which they could have been called and provided assistance.

This team, who could make the difference between life and death, will operate under the auspices of the ambulance service and will be sent out as the first line of emergency care while paramedics and ambulance staff  are on their way.

The group is busy raising  funds to buy two defibrillators and to finance their annual running costs of around £500. I have very willingly agreed to give the group about £1,150 out of my locality budget to cover  half the costs of the kit. Next weekend they embark on training and they hope to be up and running by the end of February/early March.

Congratulations and good luck to them … I hope none of us ever needs to call on them but aren’t we lucky to have such committed and caring friends and neighbours?
