We had not just one but two   chairmen of Local Enterprise Partnerships speaking at the West Suffolk Conservatives’ Business Breakfast Club on Friday at Haverhill Golf Club.

Mark Pendlington, who chairs the New Anglia LEP, was the guest speaker but we also had the benefit of input from club member, Mark Reeve, who chairs the Greater Cambridgeshire/Great Peterborough LEP.

Mark Pendlington made it clear that if regions like ours are going to compete against the might of the great metropolitan cities, especially if they get more devolved powers, then we are going to have to co-operate and combine together to promote the benefits of setting up in business here and we will also need to work together to develop business-based bids for Government funding to boost our infrastructure.

He wants to see businesses acting as ambassadors for the region. He also spoke about the need to improve our communciations – mobile reception and better broadband – music to my ears!
