Looking forward to my first volunteering session at Clare Country Park on Sunday. I am delighted that the country park is transferring to the control and care of the people of Clare who will nurture it and cherish it.

It is one of my biggest regrets as a councillor that the park was allowed to decline so badly in the years it took for the transfer to be arranged from the county council to Clare town council.

It has fallen into a very sorry state which makes me realise how the Gardens of Heligan were lost! However, what is lost can be found.

I am sure the park will rise like a phoenix once the volunteer working parties get going and the money from SCC comes through to enable the trustees to get the buildings refurbished.
