FUTURE OF POLICING IN CLARE
21st December 2014
The lease on the police office in Clare expires at the end of the month which raises the whole issue of the future of policing in Clare and the surrounding villages.
To make sure residents know what is happening – and so that they can have their say – I have invited Tim Passmore, Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner to a public meeting I am helping to organise in Clare Town Hall on 20 January at 7pm. He, in the meantime, has asked the police to arrange a 6 months extension of the lease to allow time for the proper discussions and decisions on what happens next.
Our local Police chief – Insp Peter Ferrie – recently told Clare Town Council regardless of the finances he would prefer the office to close so that the officers start their day from Haverhill Police Station where he can brief them each day before they go out and about.
Mr Passmore has stressed he is totally committed to finding a mutually acceptable solution for the residents and police service on the future of the police presence in the town.
So come along … and have your say!
