WICKHAMBROOK’S NEW BRIDGE
4th January 2015
The dodgy old footbridge by Wickhambrook ford was replaced by the county council just before Christmas. I part funded the project to the tune of £1,500 from my highways budget because I felt that the new structure apart from being sturdier and safer would also allow for a better flow when water levels are high.
Steven Halls from the county’s flooding team has been working hard in recent months to ensure that water courses flow freely through the village. Landowners and farmers have responded by getting their ditches cleared so that if we suffer heavy rain this winter like we did last year there won’t be a repeat of the flooding around Cloak Lane, The Duddery and Attleton Green.
Many thanks to all the landowners and farmers who have done their bit – it is much appreciated and Happy New Year
